Join us on a walking tour of downtown Austin, featuring the Seaholm District, a 90-acre living lab which demonstrates Austin's commitment to sustainable urban living and contains green features that are good for the environment and people who, live, work or play here.

We will visit City Hall, where transportation policies are made and learn about sustainable urban design, pedestrian activation, dockless mobility, shared e-mobility, and green streets along the way.

During the tour you will see the following:

  • Electric Drive, a transportation innovation hub that features DC fast charging for customers to use while they enjoy other aspects of the Seaholm District. A solar charging station is an innovative combination of solar technology, transportation infrastructure, and civic place making. It offers the public the opportunity to gather in the shade while using the sun to recharge their mobile electronics or electric two-wheel transportation. Electric Drive is a key component of the Plug-In Austin network and demonstrates Austin as a Smart City leader in electric transportation.
  • Austin's "Library of the Future" in the Seaholm District. The central branch of the Austin Public Library features sustainable spaces and innovative ways to use them. It connects directly to both the Ann and Roy Butler Hike and Bike Trail and the Lance Armstrong Bikeway with ample free bike parking.
  • Dockless mobility systems consist of devices, such as bicycles or scooters, that do not require fixed docking stations for users to receive or return units. Come learn about Austin's rules governing dockless vehicles, the service operators and the open data and reporting tools available for public use and analysis.
  • Green Streets are public streets with rights-of-way that are context-sensitive and incorporate landscape features, engineered stormwater controls, and sustainability principles and practices to enhance non-motorized transportation options.
  • Austin Energy's District Cooling Plant #3, which provides chilled water to buildings in the area through a network of underground pipes that the buildings then use for air conditioning. The plant's design and construction were intended to increase the efficiency of the city's energy infrastructure and reduce strain on power resources.
