Samantha (Sam) Brien is Arlington County Police Department’s Restaurant and Nightlife Liaison. Sam has
worked for the Business Outreach Unit’s Arlington Restaurant Initiative since July 2018, first as a
Management Intern then as a Management Specialist and since January 2020 the Restaurant and
Nightlife Liaison. Her work managing the Arlington Restaurant Initiative has allowed her to train
hundreds of restaurant staff in safe practices and create collaborative partnerships with stakeholders to
reduce alcohol-related harm in Arlington. Sam has taken a leadership role in many strategies that have
been implemented in Arlington County over the past four years, including, “Ask for Angela”, the
#BizStongArlVA campaign, the Limited Power of Attorney system, and several outreach events. She
graduated from Westfield State University with a B.A. in History and a concentration in Political Science.
Sam graduated in May 2020 from George Mason University with a Master's in Public Administration and
a concentration in Administration of Justice. She has been awarded the Faithful Servant’s Award for
Civilian Employee of the Year for 2018 and the Principles of Government Service Award for Teamwork.
