Ron Gibbons leads the Infrastructure-Based Safety Systems group at Virginia Tech Transportation Institute and also serves as an associate professor in the School of Architecture and Design at Virginia Tech. He is responsible for visibility-associated research projects and projects which consider roadway safety as they relate to infrastructure. Gibbons is also the Principal Investigator on the Institute's IDIQ contract for the Federal Highway Administration Office of Safety. He is a Past President of the Illuminating Engineering Society of North America. Gibbons obtained his Ph.D. from the University of Waterloo, Canada.
