Dale Hill founded Proterra in 2004 in Golden, to design and manufacture advanced technology vehicles that are powered by clean, domestic fuels. Today, Proterra is North America’s leading manufacturer of battery electric buses with over 115 customers in 43 states and two Canadian provinces and over 900 buses sold with an accumulated 11 million fleet miles. Proterra also manufacturers batteries and drive systems for a number of large heavy duty vehicle applications such as Thomas Built School buses and Van Hool motor coaches. Prior to Proterra, Dale founded TransTeq, the company that designed and manufactured the EcoMark Alternative Fueled Hybrid-Electric 16th St Mall Shuttle Buses for the Denver Regional Transit District. During their 17-year life these buses distributed 300 million passengers and logged over 6 million miles.
Over the years Dale has been involved in the design and manufacture of a number of industry-changing transportation solutions from the aluminum dump trailer industry for which he won the 2002 "Most Significant Contribution to the Trucking Industry" award to the double-decker domed rail touring cars seen in Alaska and Canada. Dale earned a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from LeTourneau University in Longview, Texas. He holds a number of patents, is a member of the Society of Automotive Engineers and American Welding Society, and has published several papers.
