Josephine ("Jo") Lukito is an Assistant Professor at the University of Texas at Austin’s School of Journalism and Media. Jo studies cross-platform media language in the global political communication context, focusing especially on interactions between news and different social media platforms. Jo specializes in natural language processing and quantitative language analysis methods to study language over time.
Jo’s ongoing work studies political mis- and disinformation, including the impact of Russian disinformation on political communication ecologies more broadly. She has discussed her research in Columbia Journalism Review and on CNN; this research was also cited in Robert Mueller’s 2018 report (p. 27). Jo also studies live-tweeting, economic news coverage, public diplomacy, and U.S. news coverage about foreign policy. Jo publishes extensively in peer-reviewed journals such as The International Journal of Press/Politics, Political Communication, and Information, Communication & Society.
Dr. Lukito co-leads the Good Systems research project, “Designing Responsible AI Technologies to Protect Information Integrity.”
