Jim Dale

Interim Deputy Director, Transportation & Public Works Department

City of Austin

Jim has over 30 years of experience in the transportation engineering field, with 15 of those years spent at the City of Austin, where he currently serves as the Interim Deputy Director for the Transportation and Public Works Department.

He knows that major achievements are rarely a result of one person’s work. Every day he gets to collaborate with an incredibly talented team who makes our streets safer, improves mobility, and expedites project delivery. Together, he and his team:

During his time at the Texas A&M Transportation Institute, Jim served as Mobility Coordinator for I-35 reconstruction through the Waco District, working hand in hand with multiple TxDOT and contractor teams to plan and monitor construction traffic control, deploy a traveler information system, and foster positive relationships with businesses and residents along the I-35 corridor.

Jim also has a wealth of experience in the private sector, where he has successfully undertaken projects like light rail and bus rapid transit projects in multiple North American cities such as Seattle, San Francisco, Chicago, and Vancouver, BC.

Jim’s experience with light rail and freeway reconstruction is an asset for the region, particularly as we embark on vital initiatives like Project Connect and reconstructing I-35. He understands that delivering more than $20B in regional infrastructure projects over the next 10 years will take all of us working together.
