Michael Fox is the Executive Director of the Texas A&M Center for Applied Communications and Networks. The center performs applied research, development, testing and evaluation of next generation networks and communications systems for public safety, critical infrastructure, and national defense. Mr. Fox has over 40 years of experience in network engineering. He started his career supporting one of the first sites of the new NSFnet, which would later form the foundation of the Internet as we know it today. Mr. Fox held various executive positions at Wellfleet, Bay Networks, and Nortel Networks, where he served as VP of Worldwide Systems Engineering, managing a team of 600 engineers responsible for designing, and supporting some of the largest networks in the world. He later served as VP of Consulting Engineering and Business Development at metro-Ethernet start-up Atrica (bought by Nokia), and VP of Services and Operations at virtual networking start-up Vyatta (bought by Brocade). Prior to joining the CACN, Mr. Fox worked on VHF/UHF, microwave, and cellular networks, with a focus on public safety communications, and designed, built, and supported a countywide emergency communications network linking EOCs, hospitals, and other key sites. In his current role, Mr. Fox leads a team of researchers focused on 5G/NextG wireless and transport technologies and the critical communications systems and applications that use those networks. He is Principal Investigator or Co-PI on numerous projects, including: Next Generation 9-1-1, Mission Critical Services, Vehicle-to-Everything, Resilient Network Timing, and more. Mr. Fox received his BS in Electrical Engineering from LSU.
